THE ANTIOCH PROJECT - How To Evangelize/Disciple the BLM/COVID-19 Culture

The Church at ANTIOCH seen in the book of Acts chapters 11 and 13 was a unique church giving us, not only a model of gathering in expressions of devotion unto the Lord, but giving us a model of how to evangelize and disciple whole cultures.

The Antioch Church was a gathering of believers across cultural, racial and religious barriers, including and highlighting key ministry gifts, and disciplines of prayer, fasting and depending on the Holy Spirit to speak, while seeking and worshiping God in a corporate expression.

ANTIOCH 2020

Acts 11:19-30

Act 13:1  Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. Act 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Act 13:3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. Act 13:4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

Act 13:5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

The Church at ANTIOCH was a unique church giving us, not only a model of gathering in expressions of devotion unto the Lord, but it gives us a model of how to evangelize the culture.

The Model of Gathering in Devotion unto the Lord.

In Acts 11:19-30 the Antioch Church also gives us a model of how they evangelized the culture and how  they discipled those that came out of the Culture, turning them to the Lord.

The Model for Evangelizing and Disciple-ing the Culture

Let's read these verses and extract the model for the transition into the 2020 BLM, COVID19 church pattern for evangelizing the culture.

Act 11:19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

Act 11:20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spoke unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

Act 11:21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed and turned unto the Lord.

Act 11:22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

Act 11:23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

Act 11:24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

Act 11:25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

Act 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Act 11:27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

Act 11:28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

Act 11:29  Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

Act 11:30  Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

This is the church that reveals the picture of what our 2020 westernized expression of Christianity should transition into, from it's racial, cultural, pharisaical religious expression, to its Kingdom expression of righteousness, peace and joy in the Spirit.

This Antioch Church is the picture of a social order that has been discipled out of a racially superior, culturally and racially insensitive and unjust expression. Antioch is a step by step playbook of how a society is discipled and what the end result of a society that is discipled by Christ Ones looks like.

The Church of Antioch is a church that the hand of the Lord is upon to transition a large segment of society out of one culture and into the kingdom Culture.

Westernized Culture of Antioch

The story begins in Acts 11 when the church at Jerusalem was persecuted and scattered at the Martyrdom of Stephen.

So, there was a man that was unjustly killed because of religious, racists, persecution and as a result the church is scattered. God used the persecution, and a key Martyr of the church to get them into all the world, which is what He originally called them and commissioned them to do, in Matthew 28:20.

Our calling and commission does not happen on its own in a vacuum.  The world participates in this process with the groan of society. The particular 2020 Antioch groan on society, which has led to the scattering of the church from its base has been the COVID19 shut-in Quarantine of the church and the whole earth, during Passover season from March 1- April 9th, and then the subsequent George Floyd killing by the Minnesota Police that sparked protests and race riots throughout the nation and world days before Pentecost weekend, May 29th.

The Earth is Groaning

The Earth is presently groaning indicating that the societies throughout the earth are awaiting for the Manifestation of the sons of God (Roman's 8:19), to prepare the earth for the return of the King of kings and the Lord of Lords.  The Persecution and the death of a man, Stephen, like George Floyd, caused the church to leave its epicenter, Jerusalem and began preaching the gospel outside of their comfort zones, out away from the Temple and outside of their race.

Notice verse 20 verses.

But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also.

The Gospel is Trans Culture, and transracial, meant to go beyond you, your race and your culture.  The Greeks were not only Gentiles, but they were the Roman Westernized Culture. The persecution had caused them to go and preach the Lord Jesus to them.

Preach the Lord Jesus to the Culture

What does it mean to preach the Lord Jesus to a Culture?  They preached a message or word of reconciliation. 2 Cor, 5:19-21.  But not only that, this word of the preaching of the Lord Jesus was the message of CHRIST OVER CULTURE.

CHRIST OVER CULTURE

To preach the Lord Jesus is to preach a kingdom invasion of a man that would encounter them to change their customs.

This is what the persecution of Stephan was all about.

Acts 6:14 They said, we have heard him say that this Nazarene, Jesus, will destroy this place and alter the customs which Moses handed down to us.

This is the preaching of the LORD Jesus.  Not just forgiveness of sins, not Jesus' death on Calvary for our sins to be forgiven only, but His resurrection for our deliverance from those sins.  It's preaching that He has risen from the dead and is alive, and Now He has made us Alive and New.

This preaching of the LORD JESUS is the preaching that something is coming that is going to warrant us changing our customs and our lifestyles now for what is coming.  And it will not make sense until it gets here.

Once it gets here it will make sense, before it gets here you've got to take my witness and life example as a sign there's another kingdom coming that's going to make obsolete the lifestyle you're living now.  That is the preaching of the LORD JESUS.

This is what He preached to them during the 40 days after His resurrection.  This is a message that you can only receive from an encounter with the Glorified Christ.

Acts 1:3.... To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the Kingdom of God. 1 Cor. 15:14

Co 15:1  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1Co 15:2  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1Co 15:3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1Co 15:4  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

1Co 15:5  And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

1Co 15:6  After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

1Co 15:7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 1Co

15:8  And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

15:9  For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

1Co 15:10  But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

1Co 15:11 Therefore whether it was I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

The Resurrection of the Dead

1Co 15:12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 1Co 15:13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 1Co 15:14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

THE HAND OF THE LORD CAUSED THEM TO TURN TO THE LORD v.21

The hand of the Lord was with them working with them turning them from just believing, to Him. it's not enough to be a believer.  You must turn to the life of the one you believe in. You must REPENT.

I Cor. 15:2 tells us that our believing can be in vain, if we do not hold fast to the preaching we received and stand in it.  That means you change your customs and destroy all idols.

The Hand of the Lord comes upon you to turn you from just believing, IN the LORD, to the LORD.

What is the Hand of the Lord?  The Hand of the Lord is the Power of God that takes you from the teaching to the life taught.  It is the Grace of God.  It is the Power of God to do for you what you cannot do, or are unwilling to do for yourself.  It’s God's grace bringing you into your salvation....

Eph 2:8 For by Grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourself, this is the gift of God.

The Grace of God comes upon you as you come to God in prayer about everything you need.

Hebrews 4:16 says, come boldly to the throne of Grace that you may obtain to mercy and find grace to help in your time of need

Grace is something that is seen as you undertake tasks that there is no way possible you could have done it in your own power.  You do not need the grace of God to do what you can do for yourself.

Grace causing you to be true to the Lord

Grace is what causes you to be true to the Lord....

Why?  Because you know you cannot do what you are doing without the Lord.   They were so true to the Lord and so filled with the Grace of God as disciples of God that they stopped calling them by their regional identification - ANTIOCH, but they started calling them Christians (Christ ONES).  They started calling them Messiah’s, SAVIORS' OF THE CULTURE.

Their mission to Disciple the Culture merged with their salvation of the culture in such a way that they started calling them Christians, (Messiahs).

THE DISCIPLES WERE CALLED CHRISTIANS

Act 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Christian's should be Disciplers

  • As Christians to the culture they Discipled them in how to live dependent on Christ.
  • They taught them how to live beyond their culture and beyond of their race, while remaining who they were.
  • They taught them how to live in another world or culture before it came, so that when it came, they would be saved from the fallout of the old system.

PROPHETS CAME TO PROPHESY ABOUT WHAT WAS COMING TO PREPARE THEM AHEAD OF TIME

Act 11:27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. Act 11:28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar. Act 11:29  Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: Act 11:30  Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

Ministering to the BLM Culture

While I don't support the Black Lives Matter organization (BLM). I do support the notion and ideology that Black Lives DO matter, and that there's a problem in American society with how blacks are viewed, treated and targeted by police, that is attempting to be addressed by the BLM, the organization, that needs to be addressed.

And while I don't agree with the philosophy and some tactics of BLM, I believe these groups are leading the way against injustice in society because of a void that's been left by the #1 Judicial institution in the earth - THE CHURCH.

A Cry for Justice is A Cry for the Just One (Christ and His Church)

The Church was not built to be a religious institution it was built by Christ to be a Judicial institution bringing Justice (Jesus and His kingdom, Heaven) to the earth.

Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations. Isaiah 42:1 NASB

He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? The voice of the Lord will call to the city— And it is sound wisdom to fear Your name: “Hear, O tribe. Who has appointed its time? Micah 6:8‭-‬9 NASB

O Lord God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty Lord ? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You. Psalms 89:8‭, ‬13‭-‬14 NASB

I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:18‭-‬19 NASB

Because of this void of enacting the Justice of Jesus in the earth, through the church obtaining a Revelation of Jesus, the world is crying out for Justice, and subsequently leading a False Justice Movement, because the Church has been busy having Church, building large congregations, and Teleministries, with high powered preachers, and worship teams. This loss of focus by the church has led to the absence of true justice - JESUS - for the cry of injustice in the earth.

When an injustice against a Black man from Law Enforcement or our Judicial  systems is caught on camera, and for 8 minutes a man's life is strangled out of him for the whole world to see, THAT'S NOT THE TIME for the church, or leaders in the White or Black  conservative community to be posting their conservative talking points as the solution to the problem, through videos, posts and blogs. That's the time to either be silent and pray, OR CRY OUT FOR JUSTICE and decry RACISM in our law enforcement throughout the nation....

While all cops aren't corrupt and racists, when one is revealed as being corrupt and racists, that's the time to stand against it.

IT'S NOT the time to justify nor highlight that all cops aren't racists....IT'S THE TIME TO PRAY and keep quiet until the racists storm brews down and passes over, and you can then help rebuild and restore what the storm destroyed, helping eliminate racism, and injustice of oppressed people through a justice that slso includes righteousness, the righteousness of Christ.....

It's at that time of rebuilding you can highlight those moral conservative ingredients and foundations that need to be put in the rebuild....

But to start with reactionary conservative videos and blogs and posts diverting the attention from the racist act of injustice, and police brutality, does more harm than good to the conservative cause.

The Kneel protest of the National Anthem

Truthfully, Colin Kaepernick looks like a saint compared to the riot alternative of cities being burned down in protest of blatant and racist police brutality....

If conservatives would have listened to Kaepernicks peaceful protests instead of vying for the conservative vantage point of the flag and country, that he obviously felt wasn't fairly treating Black people, maybe some of this could've been avoided....

Dr King said riots are the language of the unheard....and what has America failed to hear?

He was not justifying the riots, but explaining the riots.....

I think conservative Christians, in times like these, just need to quiet down and Pray, and get positioned to help clean up the mess after the storm....

And hopefully as the left sees that you've listened to them and heard them in their Cry for Justice, you can then speak and be heard in the clean up and present to them the JUST ONE, Yeshua Hamishiach, Jesus the Christ, to rebuild in the aftermath.
